MSNBC Digital Chief Charlie Tillinghast Named CEO of UK Tech Co

Charlie Tillinghast, former President and CEO of MSNBC Interactive, has joined London-based Friend Media Technology Systems as its first CEO. Friend MTS provides state-of-the-art automated online video content monitoring and anti-piracy solutions that have already been deployed in real time by some of the world’s leading global sports and entertainment companies. In this venture he joins founder and CTO Jonathan Friend, a high caliber UK-based software engineering team, and a Board of Directors committed to accelerating the company’s commercial product growth and industry presence.

Under his guidance over a 13-year period (including eight as President and CEO), MSNBC’s digital properties were recognized as early and sustained innovators in the monetization of online video. Earlier, Charlie rose through management positions at Micron Technology and led corporate development for Primary Health, a VC-backed health services company.

Tillinghast graduated from Brown University and Harvard Business School. He is on the Board of Mixpo, the digital ad platform company, and is recent past Chairman of the Online Publishers Association. He and his family are in the process of relocating from Seattle to London.
